HAIRDRESSING SCHOOL
(Working opportunity for the physically handicapped using wheelchair.)

DRAWING 1Mobility inside an educational or working environment in persons physically, sensory or mentally handicapped will go on being restricted if we don't change some conditions of accessibility and habitability based on specific ergonometric standards. They must depend on others to perform their daily activities.
The project consists of arranging a hairdressing place for a total independence of the disabled users through the design of an operative system of maximum ergonometric and functional performance.
This is the beginning of a systematization of design models and the first step to the delivery of informative modules with applicable graphics to the design and resolution of different situation such as:

-Bathroom fittings.
-Kitchens
-Working classrooms and workshops.
-Transportation (Designing of a hairdressing transportable module)
-Rehabilitation areas, etc.

These modules are known as "GRAPHIC MODULES FOR THE ADAPTABILITY TO SPACES FOR DISABLED USERS".

Interaction of disabled or non-disabled users inside an educational or working environment generates different conflicts and ergonometric-technical restrictions that would need further discussion for finding a technical solution.
One conflict that can be mentioned is the interaction between people of the same or different psycho-physic condition such as:
- A person in wheelchair is cutting / washing another person in wheelchair's hair.
- Same situation mentioned above but having a person in wheelchair and other state-run patient.
- A sensory handicapped user is cutting the hair of a non-disabled user.
DRAWING 2

These are some of the different situations that must be thoroughly analyzed. Another matter would be the level of responsibilities each group of disabilities would have.

This Project looks forward to perform a social and pedagogic function through the training and professional integration of the disabled, increasing substantially their level of independence, safety and self-confidence.

A feasible place would be available for disabled and non-disabled persons where they could interact and learn from each other.
We look for a spatial disposition that would achieve a high level of:

DRAWING 3-Versatility, flexibility, adaptability depending on the user's main characteristics, encouraging their visible skills and minimizing their limitations. This would produce a big educational and social impact on groups with access to this professional training.

Another objective would be based on the importance given to safety regulations and cleaning conditions which would increase the efficiency level of the performance of the different activities.

The development of a spatial project based on ergonometric principles forms the base where an integrated design can be used by thousand of people with or without disabilities.

The persons with disabilities who could be users inside this project are:

The physically disabled:
-In manual or electric wheelchair.
- State-run patients with clutches, tripod or walking stick.

In both cases with:
-manual skills.
-trunk control and balance enough to perform different activities.

The sensory Handicapped:
The deaf-mutes.
-The mentally handicapped:
- With the ability enough to understand and perform specific activities.

A) HAIRDRESSING SCHOOL

The materialization of the project would take form through the adequate use and disposition of:
*Working and range areas.
*anthropometric standards during the determination of the height and measures in general.
*Circuits of activities.
*Platforms, safety banisters and ramps.
* Horizontal angle of displacement planes.
*High angle of sliding planes.
* Shelves, corbels, mirrors with strategic inclination and location.
*Anti-skid floors.
*Emergency button.
*Guide Rails, special stools with or without incorporated corbet.
* Mechanisms.
*Location and planning of activities with or without the use of the hair washing sink.

Activities without the hair washing sink:
- ring-curler
- hot scissors
- Ironing
- brushing
- cutting
- combing
- manicure

Activities with the hair washing sink:
- Washing.
- Dyeing.
- Color
* Movable and flexible pipes.
* Taps with sensors.
* Contrasting Colors.
* System of signs.
