HOME-ASSISTED LIVING FOR THE ELDERLY
(Development of a program)
Definition of the problem
The elderly people should have the possibility to remain in their homes as long as they want. It would be necessary to assure an adequate social environment and attractive activities to avoid the progressive social alienation very common at this stage of life. They need a special environment designed to satisfy the requirements due to physical and mental changes and therefore increase their independence.
Home-assisted living (¨Sheltered Housing, Residences pour personnes agées,) is a program to provide the elderly with the continuity of an independent life through support services and become more self-sufficient.
Most of the ¨Sheltered Housing"* projects have a social club where different activities such as reading workshops, games, video films and tours are offered.
